Race	Race	This element indicates a student’s racial origin and is based on U.S. Government standards.
Race	American Indian or Alaska Native	A student having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America) who maintains cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community attachment.
Race	Asian	A student having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian Subcontinent, including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Race	Black	A student having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa.
Race	Hispanic	A student of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.
Race	Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander	A student having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands.
Race	Non-Resident Alien	A student who is not a citizen or national of the United States and who is in this country on a visa or temporary basis and does not have the right to remain indefinitely.
Race	Two or more	A student who identified with more than one race.
Race	Unknown	A student whose race and ethnicity are not known.
Race	White	A student having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa.
Student Level	Student Level	Level based on the student’s degree status or intention – Undergraduate or Graduate.
Student Level	Undergraduate	A student in a four or five year degree seeking baccalaureate program, a high school student in a dual-enrollment program, or a non-degree seeking student taking undergraduate courses.
Student Level	Graduate	A student enrolled in a masters, professional, or doctoral degree program, a graduate certificate program, or is a non-degree seeking student taking graduate courses.
Student Class	Student Class	A more granular method of grouping students based on their progress within their degree.
Student Class	Freshman	An undergraduate student seeking a baccalaureate degree. Often this is the first year of study. Typically, the student has earned less than 30 credit hours.
Student Class	Sophomore	An undergraduate student seeking a baccalaureate degree. Often this is the second year of study. Typically, the student has earned more than 30 but less than 59 credit hours.
Student Class	Junior	An undergraduate student seeking a baccalaureate degree. Often this is the third year of study. Typically, the student has earned more than 60 but less than 89 credit hours.
Student Class	Senior	An undergraduate student seeking a baccalaureate degree. Often this is the fourth year of study. Typically, the student has earned more than 90 credit hours.
Student Class	5th Year Senior	An undergraduate student seeking a baccalaureate degree that normally takes five years to complete. This is not a student who takes five years to complete a four year degree.
Student Class	Undergrad Non-Degree	An undergraduate student who is non-degree seeking and holds no degree or certificate and taking courses for undergraduate credit.
Student Class	Masters	A graduate student who has been formally admitted to a graduate school for the purpose of pursuing a master's degree.
Student Class	Graduate Non-Degree	A graduate student who is non-degree seeking holding a bachelor's or higher degree, taking graduate courses for credit or seeking a Graduate Certificate of Credit.
Student Class	Ed Specialist	A graduate student who has been formally admitted to a graduate school for the purpose of pursuing a Specialist in Education degree.
Student Class	Professional Year 1	A graduate student who has been accepted into a program leading to the JD, MD, DDS, PharmD, or DVM degree and is in the first year of study.
Student Class	Professional Year 2	A graduate student who has been accepted into a program leading to the JD, MD, DDS, PharmD, or DVM degree and is in the second year of study.
Student Class	Professional Year 3	A graduate student who has been accepted into a program leading to the JD, MD, DDS, PharmD, or DVM degree and is in the third year of study.
Student Class	Professional Year 4+	A graduate student who has been accepted into a program leading to the JD, MD, DDS, PharmD, or DVM degree and is in the four year or beyond of study.
Student Class	Professional Non-Degree	A graduate transient non-degree seeking student enrolled in professional studies courses.
Student Class	Doctoral Early	A graduate student who has been formally admitted to graduate study and whose major academic endeavor consists of formal course work directed toward fulfilling requirements for a doctoral degree.
Student Class	Doctoral Late	A graduate student who has been advanced to candidacy for a doctoral degree, or one whose principal academic endeavor consists of independent study, research, or work toward fulfilling requirements for a doctoral degree.
Student Class	Post Doctoral Student	A student who holds a doctoral degree and who is pursuing a program of study or training for which a doctoral degree is requisite.
Residency	Residency	A student's permanent address. For entering freshmen, residence may be the legal residence of a parent or guardian.
Residency	In State	A student who is a legal resident of Tennessee.
Residency	Out of State	A student who is not a legal resident of Tennessee.
Age	Age	The student's age at the beginning of the fall semester. Age is grouped by: under 25, 25 - 34, or 35 and older.
Attendance Status	Full-time	Undergraduate: A student enrolled for 12 or more semester credits. Graduate: A student enrolled for 9 or more semester credits or involved in thesis or dissertation preparation that is considered full-time by the institution.
Attendance Status	Part-Time	Undergraduate: A student enrolled for less than 12 semester credits. Graduate: A student enrolled for less than 9 semester credits.
Attendance Status	Unknown	Unreported by the campus.
Admissions Status	Admissions Status	Indicates whether the student is new, continuing, or returning.
Admissions Status	New	Student first time at institution or first time college student (e.g., new freshmen, new transfer, or new graduate student).
Admissions Status	Readmit	A student who has previously attended the institution and who is not a returning student.
Admissions Status	Returning	A student who was registered at the institution during the preceding term.
Military Affiliation	Active Duty	A student who is on full-time duty in the active military service of the United States, including active duty or full-time training duty in the Reserve Component.
Military Affiliation	No Military Affiliation	A student who has no affiliation with any military branch.
Military Affiliation	Reservist	A student who serves in the National Guard of the United States, the Army Reserve, the Navy Reserve, the Marine Corps Reserve, the Air National Guard of the United States, the Air Force Reserve, and the Coast Guard Reserve.
Military Affiliation	Veteran	A person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.
Average ACT Composite	Average ACT Composite	The ACT (American College Test) Composite score is the overall score from a standardized college entrance exam administered by the American College Testing Program. Four separate, multiple-choice tests measure knowledge of English, math, reading and science, and one optional writing test measures essay planning and writing skills. Most UT students take the ACT test. For students taking the SAT and not the ACT exam, the SAT total scores are NOT included in the ACT Composite score.

Average Transfer College GPA	Average Transfer College GPA	The cumulative Grade Point Average earned at the previous institution before the student transferred to a University of Tennessee campus. GPA range from 0.0 to 4.0, where 4 typically represents an "A" grade. Typically, campuses require a minimum 2.0 for admission to the university.
Average Weighted High School GPA	Average Weighted High School GPA	The overall high school GPA as reported on the students’ high school transcript. If available, weighted scores are included. Students taking honors/ advanced placement course may receive additional credits (weights) for their GPA.
Enrollment	Enrollment	The total number of students registered at the time of census (14th class day) in the fall semester.
Peer Average	Peer Average	The mean based on each campuses list of similar institutions approved by the Board of Trustees for benchmarking and comparison.

Degree Awarded	Degree Awarded	A diploma or title awarded to students after successful completion of a program of study.
Degree Level	Baccalaureate	An undergraduate degree awarded upon successful completion of a program of study, typically requiring at least four years (or the equivalent) of full-time study. Common degree types include Bachelor of Arts (B.A. or A.B.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.), or a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (B.I.S.). A typical bachelor’s degree requires 120-135 college level credits.
Degree Level	Doctoral	The highest award a student can earn for graduate study. The doctor's degree classification includes Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Doctor of Education, and Doctor of Public Health.
Degree Level	Professional	The degree awarded in special-professional programs in law (JD), medicine (MD), dentistry (DDS), Pharmacy (PharmD), and veterinary medicine (DVM).
Disciplines	Disciplines	An area of academic study.
Cohort Type	Cohort Type	A specific group of students who entered during the same term (e.g., new freshmen who entered in the Fall 2015 term).
Visual	Four-Year Graduation Rate	The percentage of new, full-time, baccalaureate degree-seeking freshmen who complete their degree within four years.
Visual	New Freshman	A student who is attending any institution for the first time at the undergraduate level. This includes students enrolled in the fall term who attended college for the first time in the prior summer term, and students who entered with advanced standing (college or recognized postsecondary credential earned before graduation from high school).
Visual	Retention Rate	The percentage of new, full-time, baccalaureate degree-seeking freshman in a given fall term who returned to the institution in the subsequent fall term.
Visual	Six-Year Graduation Rate	The percentage of new, full-time, baccalaureate degree-seeking freshmen who complete their degree within six years.
